Resolve

One person, every record

The same person appears in an agency’s systems under different spellings, dates of birth, addresses and identifiers. Kinship examines every record available to a mission partner and resolves those that refer to the same entity, with a confidence score and an explanation for every match.

Analysts see one profile for each person, address, vehicle, device, account and organization, with every source record attached and every match open to challenge. A match an analyst rejects is never made again.

Relationships

Who knows whom

Once records are resolved, Kinship builds a graph of the relationships between them:

  • Who lives where, from records, utility and other commercial data where permitted, and the addresses in an agency’s own systems.
  • Who knows whom, from shared addresses, incidents, calls, contacts in device extractions, and associations in reports.
  • Who travels with whom, from Kerbside reads of vehicles regularly seen together, and from device location data lawfully obtained.

Every relationship shows its sources and when it was last observed, so an analyst can tell a current association from an old one.

Assurance

Identity assurance for organizations

Commercial mission partners use Kinship to confirm that the people they deal with are who they say they are: insurers investigating claims, retailers investigating organized theft, landlords and employers screening applicants through consumer reporting agencies, and organizations protecting their staff and premises.1

An identity assurance result shows whether a name, date of birth and address resolve to a single real person with a consistent history, and flags the patterns that suggest a synthetic or borrowed identity.

Data

Sources

Kinship works on the data a mission partner holds or is lawfully given: its own records, data shared by other agencies, extractions, Kerbside reads and Murmur results. Mission partners may also license reference data through Tellwright, including public records, commercial address histories and business registrations, where their purpose and the law allow.2

Questions

Common questions

Does Kinship guess?

No. Every match has a score and an explanation, and analysts can reject any match. Matches below the threshold a mission partner sets are shown as possible, not resolved.

Can commercial customers use Kinship?

Yes, for identity assurance and investigations, through a separate commercial edition and, for screening, through consumer reporting agencies that comply with the law on background checks.

Where does reference data come from?

From public records and from commercial data providers licensed by Tellwright. Reference data available to a mission partner depends on its purpose and on the law.
